Choppa: Rescue Rivals is a colorful, creative rescue game that feels right at home on the ROG Xbox Ally X
Choppa: Rescue Rivals is a 2.5D side-scrolling game about flying helicopters, saving people, avoiding wildlife, and "roundhouse-kicking" anything foolish enough to get in your way. Yes, the helicopters can roundhouse kick. That ridiculous move tells you almost everything you need to know about the game's tone.
Most missions ask you to fly close to stranded people so they can grab onto the ladder hanging beneath your chopper. You then need to carry them through the rest of the level while weaving around walls, traps, animals, and other hazards determined to blow you up. It is a simple foundation, but flying feels easy, responsive, and immediately satisfying.

The controls make navigating tight spaces enjoyable instead of frustrating. You can adjust the angle of the chopper, boost forward, and use that wonderfully silly tail strike to smash obstacles or knock threats away. Rescued people remain dangling beneath you, which adds a little extra tension when squeezing through dangerous sections. I quickly settled into the rhythm of rescuing everyone, searching for collectibles, and trying to reach the end without turning my helicopter into scrap.
Each level hides three medals alongside plenty of coins. Neither is required to complete the mission, but they give you reasons to explore corners and take riskier routes. There are optional challenges too, so players who enjoy clearing every objective have more to chase than the basic rescue. The levels are short enough that replaying one does not feel like a chore, which makes this structure a great fit for handheld play.
The campaign is split across five chapters, with each group of levels culminating in a boss fight. New tools help keep that journey fresh. One pilot can fire a plunger to grab objects from a distance, while another uses a net to pick things up and launch them like a catapult. None of these ideas completely transforms the game, but each adds a fun wrinkle to movement and puzzle-solving before the rescue loop has a chance to become stale.

The difficulty rises steadily as hazards become more elaborate and the spaces get tighter. Your chopper loses health when it hits walls or takes damage, so sloppy flying can end a mission quickly. There are a few noticeable difficulty spikes, especially around some boss encounters, but the responsive controls usually make failure feel like something I can correct on the next attempt.
Coins feed into a playful unlock system. You can buy sticker packs to decorate your ride or save up for different choppers with their own stats. The selection embraces the game's nonsense, offering everything from a UFO and an ice-cream truck to my clear favorite, the pug-chopper. These unlocks are mostly there for variety and fun, but they give all those collectible coins a purpose beyond simply making a number increase.
The story carries the energy of a Saturday morning cartoon where every mission is presented as the end of the world. It knows how exaggerated the stakes are and regularly plays with that idea. The colorful cast, dramatic emergencies, and rivalries give the campaign enough personality without slowing down the action. It is knowingly goofy, and that self-awareness makes the jokes and absurd helicopter designs work.

Visually, Choppa: Rescue Rivals looks fantastic. The cel-shaded models are gorgeous, the animations have plenty of character, and every environment is packed with vibrant color. It has the spirit of an old arcade game filtered through a clean modern presentation. Even when a level fills the screen with hazards, characters, and effects, it remains easy to read.
On the ROG Xbox Ally X, performance was perfect throughout my time with the game. Movement stayed smooth, inputs felt immediate, and the controller layout suited the chopper's small set of actions naturally. The bright art also looks excellent on the handheld display. Between the compact missions, quick retries, and collectible hunting, this is exactly the kind of game I enjoy playing on a portable PC.

Choppa: Rescue Rivals does not reinvent the side-scrolling action game, and its occasional difficulty spikes can interrupt an otherwise relaxed rhythm. What it does offer is a polished, funny, and consistently creative campaign built around controls that simply feel good. The changing tools keep the rescues lively, the presentation is bursting with charm, and unlocking a helicopter shaped like a pug never stopped being funny. I had a great time with this one and can easily recommend it to anyone looking for a colorful arcade adventure on PC. Thanks for reading!
