Dodo Master is a very simple 2.5D platformer that works on ROG Xbox Ally X, but it runs out of ideas almost immediately
Dodo Master is about as straightforward as platformers get. You play as a dodo trying to escape caves and dungeons while reclaiming stolen eggs, jumping through hazards, avoiding enemies, and clearing rooms tucked behind a bunch of doors.
On the ROG Xbox Ally X, it worked without any real technical drama. Short levels, simple controls, and quick restarts all make sense on a portable PC. The problem is that the game does very little with that foundation.

Your move set is tiny: jump, double jump, and ground pound. That is basically it. I do not need every platformer to be packed with complicated systems, but Dodo Master shows you almost everything it has in the first level you try. After that, it mostly rearranges the same ideas.
There are enemies, traps, moving hazards, and plenty of precision jumps, but the challenge rarely feels satisfying. Too often, it feels like you are brushing against hitboxes that are much larger or stranger than they appear. When the core action is jumping over danger, getting tagged by something that feels unfair kills the rhythm fast.

I do like the goofy unlockable hats. Dressing up the dodo adds a little personality, and the game has a harmless, colorful charm. But cosmetics can only do so much when the platforming itself feels this thin.
Dodo Master is functional, and if you want the most basic old-school platforming possible, there is a lot of it here. I just did not find much reason to keep going once the novelty wore off. It works, but it is repetitive, stiff, and too imprecise where precision matters most. Unfortunately, I do not recommend it. Thanks for reading!
