S.C.A.D is a simple, loud, immediately satisfying roguelite that turns your hovercraft into a rolling fortress of guns

Roguelites and bullet heaven games are everywhere right now. That is not automatically a problem, but it does mean a new one has to grab you quickly. A lot of them do not. Some take too long to become fun, while others feel like they are just rearranging the same old upgrade menu. S.C.A.D clicked because it understands one very important thing: feeling powerful is fun.

This is an action-packed post-apocalyptic roguelite where you pilot a customizable hovercraft through swarms of zombies and other monstrosities. The basic loop is familiar, but the vehicle setup gives it a different flavor. Instead of controlling a tiny character gathering orbiting weapons, you are building a war machine. You unlock, craft, and equip guns directly onto your hovercraft, and more placements open up as it levels.

By the end of a good run, the screen becomes beautiful nonsense. Gatling guns chew through crowds, flamethrowers melt anything dumb enough to get close, railguns punch through tougher enemies, and tesla weapons crackle across the battlefield. S.C.A.D does not make you wait forever for that escalation. Even early on, you are already decimating hordes instead of poking at them with weak starter gear.

The hovercraft itself feels good to drive. It is responsive, readable, and quick enough to cut through danger without feeling weightless. You can dash into enemies, reposition fast, and use a grappling hook to escape when the screen gets ugly. That last tool adds a nice bit of panic management without making survival feel free.

Runs are structured around different mission paths and objectives. Sometimes you survive for a set time, sometimes you kill a required number of enemies, sometimes you destroy nests, and each level ends with a boss fight. That variety keeps you from simply circling the map in autopilot mode. You are usually moving with a purpose, watching the horde, picking upgrades, and trying to snowball.

The run-specific buffs and special attacks are strong in the right way. They do not feel like tiny percentage bumps you barely notice. When you pick up a big attack or a useful modifier, you feel the difference immediately. S.C.A.D is not shy about letting the player wreck the battlefield. The visual feedback sells the damage too, with bodies, explosions, effects, and environmental chaos making each fight messy and satisfying.

One fair criticism is that S.C.A.D can feel too easy in its current state. I would like higher difficulty options for players who want harsher runs and more pressure. At the same time, I would not want the base difficulty changed too much. Part of why the game works is that it does not spend the opening hours starving you of power. A harder mode would be great. Making the default experience more stingy would be the wrong move.

Between missions, you return to a hub where you upgrade the craft, craft new weapons, and hire people to man your guns. It is not an overly complicated management layer, but it gives the action a clear sense of forward momentum. You are improving the machine, making new choices, and preparing for the next expedition.

S.C.A.D is still in Early Access. A couple of the final levels are marked as coming soon, and you can feel that the game has room to grow, especially in late-run challenge and long-term variety. What is already here, though, is very playable and easy to recommend if you want something immediately rewarding.

On ROG Xbox Ally X, performance was excellent. I was getting around 120fps, controls felt sharp, and the pixel art style looked great on the handheld screen. It is exactly the kind of game that fits portable PC play: quick to understand, fast to restart, and satisfying in short sessions.

S.C.A.D is not trying to be the deepest roguelite in the world, and that is fine. It is a simple-minded, explosive game about turning a hovercraft into a monster-killing fortress. For me, that was more than enough. Thanks for reading!
