Small room.
Big questions.
A few things to know about VR room size, clearances, and what this planner can tell you.
How much room do you need for VR?
It depends on the headset, game, and play style. Meta recommends at least 2 × 2 meters for room-scale VR. Valve lists 2 × 1.5 meters for Index room-scale. PS VR2 requires 2 × 2 meters for roomscale, or 1 × 1 meter for sitting and standing, with enough room for controller movement. Always check the game’s supported play styles and your physical reach.
Can I play VR in a small room?
Some games support seated or stationary play, so a clear area around 3 square meters may still be usable for those titles. That is not a universal minimum or a pass for a 2 × 2 meter room-scale target. A 1.5 × 2 meter rectangle and a 1 × 3 meter strip both have 3 square meters, but offer very different room to move. Check the game’s supported play styles and make sure your arms and controllers have clearance in every direction. Use Custom footprint to compare a measured target; a fit result does not certify that a game or room is safe.
How does the VR room planner calculate clear space?
The planner adds your chosen clearance around walls and rectangular furniture, then finds the largest empty rectangle aligned with the room’s walls. Each headset footprint is checked against every candidate rectangle, including a 90-degree rotation. Total free floor area alone is not used to decide fit. The solid green outline previews the selected footprint; the dashed outline marks the largest clear rectangle.
What does the clearance setting mean?
Clearance is an extra distance excluded from each wall and each furniture edge. The default 0.30 meters is an editable planning assumption, not a manufacturer safety standard. Increase it to reflect your reach, controllers, and planned movements. Measure and check overhead obstacles separately.
Does this scan my room or set my headset boundary?
No. Enter measurements yourself and represent furniture with rectangular footprints. The planner does not model ceiling height, open doors, pets, cables, tracking coverage, or irregular walls. It does not scan your room or change a headset boundary. Plans save locally in this browser; sharing places your layout in the link.
Space guidance
Room-scale checks follow manufacturer guidance. Individual games may need more space.
