OBLITACRATER has a cute look and one neat idea, but it never becomes all that engaging on ROG Xbox Ally X

OBLITACRATER is another survivors-like, and while it does have a small twist, I never found it especially compelling. You are some kind of little spaceship or robot dropped onto a spherical 3D planet, and your job is simple: move around, shoot aliens, and survive.

That tiny planet is the main visual hook, and to be fair, it does give the game a distinct look. Running around a full sphere while enemies spill over the surface is cute and readable, and the whole presentation has a colorful low-key charm to it. I just wish the spherical setup led to more interesting gameplay ideas. Mostly, it is just a nice visual gimmick.

The bigger issue for me is the upgrade system. A lot of the upgrade descriptions feel vague or weirdly abstract. Your ship gets bigger or smaller, you get “a ton of points,” you get 10% more dash, or you fire tiny rockets around the planet. Most of these changes never really clicked with me.

Its progression is also strange. If you die, your score resets to zero and there are no permanent upgrades. But if you choose to escape mid-run by holding a button, you keep your upgrades for the next drop and your score goes up by one. Unique, yes, but not especially satisfying.

On ROG Xbox Ally X it ran perfectly fine and visually it stays cute throughout. For five bucks, sure, you can squeeze a couple of fun hours out of it. It is just not special. Thanks for reading!

Final Verdict

Niche

OBLITACRATER

OBLITACRATER has a cute look and a neat spherical-planet gimmick, but its confusing upgrades and oddly flat progression stop it from becoming anything more than a short-lived budget distraction.
