Resident Evil 4 Remake is an absolute masterpiece of a game. As a fan of the original game and having recently played and reviewed the last two remakes for the first time, I was eagerly looking forward to diving into the updated version, and it did not disappoint. Playing it on the Series X, I was blown away by the stunning visuals and the enhanced gameplay mechanics.
The first thing that struck me about the game was the updated graphics. The environments are incredibly detailed and realistic, and the characters look better than ever before. The character animation work on display here is proper next level. Running through the environments, reloading the many different guns, everything is impeccable. From the detailed textures on the buildings to the impressive lighting effects, the game looks absolutely gorgeous. The updated graphics make the game even more immersive than it was before, and it's easy to get lost in the world of Resident Evil 4 Remake.
The gameplay mechanics have also been improved in this remake. The controls are tighter and more responsive, making it easier to navigate the game's challenging levels. The shooting mechanics feel more satisfying, and the added aiming mechanics make taking down enemies feel even more satisfying. The game's pacing is also spot-on, with intense moments of action perfectly balanced by quieter, more atmospheric sections.
You can now parry almost all of the incoming attack using your knife and it's so satisfying pulling that off especially when you follow it up with a roundhouse kick. Everything feels weighty, from shooting your guns to dodging any incoming attacks.
The game's story remains largely unchanged from the original, but the updated graphics and improved mechanics make it feel fresh and new. The game's plot follows Leon S. Kennedy as he attempts to rescue the President's daughter from a remote European village infested with sinister creatures. The story is engaging, and the game does a great job of building tension and suspense.
One of the things that impressed me most about the game was the attention to detail. The world of Resident Evil 4 Remake feels lived-in and believable, with little touches like the sounds of creaky floorboards and the flickering of candles adding to the game's immersive atmosphere. The sound design is also excellent, with the game's score perfectly capturing the mood of each scene. The Island part of the game, for example, is tense, exciting and exhilarating and the music that plays all throughout it adds so much to the overall atmosphere.
Each of the main areas is quite big with lots of room for exploration. Treasures that you can sell at the Merchant are hidden all throughout the map. Other than the main path, this time around the devs have included some cool side objectives that you mainly get from the Merchant. Things like shoot X number of hidden medallions in the environment or kill rats to kill some pretty tough mini-bosses. These side objectives reward you some special currency that you can use to buy some special equipment such as new guns, case upgrades and more.
Yes, in RE 4 Remake not only you can upgrade and expand your case, but you can also customise it. Different colour cases grant you different in-game bonuses. You can also attach charms to the case, that you get from completing shooting range challenges, which again, grant you in-game bonuses. There's so much to do, find and explore in this game that will require you multiple playthroughs to 100% it. Add to that the upcoming Mercenaries mode as a free DLC and you have a big lot to go through.
Yeah, Resident Evil 4 Remake is an absolute must-play for fans of the series, and for anyone who loves survival-horror games. The updated graphics and improved gameplay mechanics make it an even more satisfying experience than the original, while still retaining everything that made the original game so great.
