If you're itching to strategize in virtual worlds as the realm's divine protector, this dynamic experience might be just for you

As the realm's divine protector, it's up to you to defend islands from invading monstrous hordes in Towers & Powers. Developer Kiwi Jetdogs has transported their popular tower defense concept to the next level by taking full advantage of VR.

The game stays true to classic tower defense mechanics - you'll earn gold to purchase unique troop units and place them in towers around the map. However, VR allows you to get hands on, literally constructing defenses with your own hands. Placing units physically and combining their abilities opens up new strategic possibilities. Whether you opt for focused elemental towers or scatter a diverse mix across the landscape, the ability to tweak every detail yourself heightens the sense of ownership over your defenses.

A variety of enemy types pose an escalating threat across 15 sprawling levels. From basic zombies to hulking titans, you'll need to counter each new foe as they evolve. The challenge remains fair while constantly keeping you on your toes problem-solving. When things get too hairy, aid comes in the form of magic orbs and spells you can grasp and unleash yourself by drawing specific patterns that allow you to cast fireballs, slow time etc. It's immensely satisfying seeing the results of your own spellcasting turn the tides of battle.

Visually, Towers & Powers won't wow you with photorealistic graphics but the stylistic medieval/mythological environments are still immersive in VR. 3D audio helps with spatial awareness, letting you pinpoint enemies and the impacts of defenses. Interacting with every element through motion controls keeps you invested in every defense choice. While a bit light on content after completion, Towers & Powers demonstrates tower defense at its best in VR. If you're itching to strategize in virtual worlds, this dynamic experience might be for you. Thanks for reading!

The game was reviewed on a Quest 3 using a review copy provided by the developers. Towers & Powers is available on Meta Quest, PSVR2 and PCVR.
