What is the best horror game of all time?

It’s almost Halloween, the best time of year to dim the lights and immerse yourself in a scary game or two. With some amazing new titles being released like Until Dawn and Dying Light, the question comes to mind…what is the best horror game of all time?

  1. Resident Evil

Resident Evil was first released in 1996 during a new era of consoles that could run games and graphics people had never witnessed before. Combining elements of horror and suspense, these survival horror games were an instant hit with players all over the world. The series has done so well that it has spawned a series of spin-offs and sequels including Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, Resident Evil 4, Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6. There is a team-based multiplayer game set Umbrella Corps due to be released in 2016.

  1. The Walking Dead

In at number two is Telltale Games The Walking Dead, initially released in 2012. First known for Robert Kirkman's massively popular comics and then the subsequent TV series, the game takes its inspiration (in both narrative and visual style) from the comics. The Walking Dead is episodic interactive drama graphic adventure video game. The innovative gameplay is what makes this game so great, from the focus on story to the development of the characters.

  1. Silent Hill

Silent Hill takes the top three position. First released in 1999, this Japanese survival horror franchise includes Silent Hill, 2, 3, and 4: The Room. These games are set in a fictional American town called Silent Hill. As well as the elements of psychological horror, this game introduced some incredibly disturbing enemies including dead children, bloody knife wielding nurses and the infamous Pyramid Head.
