The Room Old Sins Review

The Room is back everyone and it is better than ever. if you are not familiar with The Room games first, where have you been living for the past couple of years and second, they are the best escape the room/true puzzle games you will ever get to experience.

Old Sins continues the story that started in the previous games or maybe it is a prequel, I don’t really know to be completely honest. But in the end that doesn’t matter all that much to me. Don’t get me wrong, the story is kinda cool and trippy especially the ending with the whole dimension hopping, secret society and the black tentacly monster. But it’s hard to follow it and remember what happened before, who you are and what is currently happening.

This is the only problem I have with the game. I want to invest myself into the story, but I don’t want to replay all three previous games so I understand what’s going on. Maybe a quick recap of what happened before would have been perfect, I hope they consider it for The Room 4.

Now onto the good part which is kinda everything else. The puzzle design is fantastic and intriguing, but at the same time, it all makes sense if you pay a little attention to your surroundings. The puzzle interaction is excellent too, you will tap, slide, rotate, flick and all the other possible gestures that the iOS devices offer. Everything is meticulously designed, crafted and perfectly placed where it should be making the puzzles feel organic and the solving process natural. The Doll House is a complex structure with all sorts of hidden nooks and crannies, interactive parts and the way it opens up and connects its rooms is basically genius.

The eyepiece makes a return in Old Sins and you will need it to solve some of the coolest puzzles in the game as you are able to interact with objects that you normally couldn’t and since I don’t want to spoil anything, I’ll just stop talking. Well, there a puzzle with dragons that’s really cool and that’s about all I’m saying.

Another thing that’s cool about it is that it feels like an actual game, lengthwise, which is totally worth it for it’s asking price. Depending on your puzzle solving skills, if you don’t use the hints system, it might take around 4 to 5 hours to finish it.

The presentation is fantastic and that’s not really a surprise. The other games looked amazing and still do, Old Sins is no exception. I played the game on an iPad Pro and it looked and run smoothly as f*ck, I just loved every minute of it.

The Room Old Sins is a must play not just for puzzle games fans, but for everyone. It looks fantastic, it runs smoothly and the music creates the perfect eerie atmosphere of mystery that keeps you hooked from start to finish. And oh, the puzzle design is among, if not, the best you will find out there. Just get the game and experience it yourself. Thanks for reading!
