Let Them Come Review

Update

Recently the game launched on iOS and I was provided a key to try out the game. The game feels right at home on your iPhone or iPad. Its simple gameplay loop and the pick up and play nature of the game makes it perfect to play in short bursts and mow down some nasty looking aliens for a couple of minutes.

The controls feel nice, the game looks really good and the UI is just a breeze to navigate with touch controls. It’s still a simple game and it doesn’t break new grounds, but it’s still a really good iOS game. I recommend giving the game a try.

Let Them Come is a simple pixelated game and I am totally OK with it. Think of Let Them Come as the simplest tower defense game ever, you are fixed in a stationary position in a corridor and enemies come only from one direction. The job is easy, take out as many incoming enemies and survive as long as possible.

An image showcasing the game described in this article.First few waves are easy enough as your machine gun obliterates the incoming aliens. But the more you progress through the waves, the stronger the enemies that will swarm you. Slow moving enemies will crawl towards you and they can be easily dealt with. Then brutes will come, then armored ones, then exploding ones and so on. After a while, creepy crawly things will start attacking you from the ceiling which raises the difficulty even more as you have to juggle between shooting your main gun, hacking and slashing the creepy crawlies and throwing the area clearing grenades.

Then there are the boss fights, which can be a real pain in the ass. Luckily as you progress through the game, you unlock upgrades for your weapon, new bullet types, new types of grenades and new perks that can make or break a run. And that's about it, that's the whole gameplay loop. If you have played games like Jetpack Joyride, it's basically the same feeling. Start the run, complete waves, unlock temporary boosts and abilities, kill as many aliens as you can, die and repeat.

The pixel art looks good, even though I would have liked it way more if everything was a tad more detailed and fleshed out. But it's good enough and so are the sounds with a punchy machine gun and a fitting soundtrack for the carnage on screen.

But in the end, is that enough for it's asking price? I think not well, at least not at full price. Thanks for reading!
