Jak and Daxter 20th Anniversary - Jak Month

Do you remember when Luigi had a whole year all to himself and Princess Peach had an entire month to herself? Well, Jak and Daxter are going to have a whole month dedicated to themselves in the run-up to their 20th anniversary on 3rd December.

Irrelevant to Jak Month but still related to Jak and Daxter, I was actually supposed to do my half of the art trade. My talented artist friend, SoulEaterSaku90, already did half of the art trade: Lunar Festival by SoulEaterSaku90 on DeviantArt. He asked me to write a short fanfic about Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter looking for treasure. From what I can vaguely remember, he wanted the story to be about them encountering each other but they ended up fighting one another over the treasure due to the fact they have different reasons for wanting it. I suggested they should search for Precursor Artifacts. But to be honest, I didn’t get anywhere with it. Trying to come up with a beginning is the hardest part of writing anything in general, fanfiction and journalism wise. The last thing I want is for the opening paragraph or sentence to be abysmal. SoulEaterSaku90, if you’re reading this, don’t worry I haven’t given up on my half of the art trade. I’m just currently stuck in a rut in terms of ideas. I merely don’t know how Ratchet and Clank and Jak and Daxter should go about finding the Precursor Artifacts and where the fanfic should take place. At this rate, I highly doubt I can write the story in time for Jak Month, let alone my 17th fanfiction anniversary next year. Dang… do I feel old just thinking about it.

Back to the topic at hand, Jak Month is hosted by fans for fans as the trailer implied. The event starts on Monday 1st November and ends on Friday 3rd December.

If you want to follow the progress of the 20th anniversary, Jak Month is on Twitter (the account is run by Powercell Zeke, MartianBlobfish and darkecodemon), YouTube, Discord and Twitch

I didn't attend the Jak X: Combat Racing The Precursor Eco Cup on Wednesday 24th November because I was occupied with celebrating my birthday at the time.

At the time of writing, Twitter Gaming acknowledged Jak and Daxter’s upcoming 20th anniversary which occurs on 3rd December.

If you use the hashtags, #JakMonth and #JakAndDaxter, and tag the Jak Month and the eco_mmunity Twitter accounts you’re bound to have your work (cosplay, fanart, YouTube video/stream, Twitch stream, journalistic or blog article etc) retweeted by the event account

Communication is primary on the eco_mmunity and Jak Month Twitter accounts. It shares the YouTube and Twitch broadcast schedules and creations from the fans ranging from fanart to videos.

Throughout Jak Month, the Jak Month YouTube channel will upload reviews, analysis, theory, Let's Plays playthroughs/walkthroughs, speedruns, other challenges, fanart, music covers, tournaments, discussions in the form of podcasts and voice chats. What's missing are cosplay and journalistic or blog articles.

The Jak Month Twitch channel hosts various streams by different streamers related to the Jak and Daxter franchise.

Finally, the official Jak Month Discord is where players worldwide will gather to chat about all things Jak and Daxter.

Even if Jak Month is over once its anniversary passes, there are still plenty of posts to look forward to from the eco_mmunity and darkecodemon Twitter accounts.

Now whether Jak Month will be hosted in the many years to come in the future remains to be seen.

To be honest, I don't consider myself to be a certified Jak and Daxter fan but this doesn't mean I don't enjoy playing the games. However, I am a long-time fanatic of platformers. Hence why I'm currently working on an upcoming print and digital magazine dedicated to all things platformers. For now, purchase the From Gamers Magazine Issue 2 for a sneak peek of my forthcoming magazine. Not to mention, I can't help but be happy for the Jak and Daxter community and I'm a bit excited about what the Jak Month celebratory event has to offer.

Alternatively, if you’re not a Jak and Daxter fan and Ratchet & Clank is more up your street, be sure to follow the Ratchet & Clank Fans Twitter page and join the Ratchet & Clank Fans Facebook group.
