With its charming, hand-drawn visuals, simple, four-swipe control system and cuter-than-anything bobbing ducklings, Hotgen’s Doodle Ducks – free on the App Store now – is an endless runner like no other.
Indeed – there’s no running, for a start. And it’s less frenetic than its urgent counterpart, offering an infinite score attack – without danger of heart attack.Players control a mother duck who must navigate the waterways picking up as many ducklings as possible. Drop them off at a suitable nest results in a sizeable score bonus – but hit one of the many obstacle before doing so and they’ll be lost forever.
The waterways begin gently enough – a hop with a swipe here; a leap over an obstacle there – but your duck’s pathway soon becomes increasingly fraught. Meandering rivers soon increase in speed, demanding quicked reactions in order to lead the ducklings to safety. One missed swipe of the finger, and the ducklings are lost. Crash again without any offspring in tow, and it’s game over.
“Doodle Ducks is an endless running game without any running,” says James Stewart, Producer, Hotgen. “We wanted to make a game which was simple to play, and a lot less stressful than other examples of the genre. It’s a score attack game with an emphasis on enjoying yourself – you can even continue where you left off rather than starting all over again.”
