The Company Man Review

The Company Man Review

The Company Man is a serviceable action sidescroller and I will just leave it at that. It’s as simple as it can get, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. That also doesn’t mean that it’s good. The Company Man is well, just an OK game.

You start the game on the lowest scale of the corporate ladder and you must literally fight your way to the top, to become the CEO of this company. Each level is set around one of the many different departments from customer service and accounting to R&D and C-suite.

The gorgeous cartoony art style is one great thing that the game has going on. Each department has its own unique look. For example, customer service is dark and littered with tons of customer letters while the marketing level is set atop floating clouds where employees sit atop yoga balls, cause you know, marketing people. There are a lot of puns around corporate satire and most of them are actually funny cause they are real.

But that’s the only great thing about the game, its presentation. The gameplay on the other hand is as basic as it can get. You only have a basic melee attack and different ranged attacks which are unlocked as you progress through the game. As a weapon you use a sword made from a keyboard and for ranged attacks you shoot, you guessed it, emails. Again, playing around with that whole corporate satire thing.

Combat is really simple as the game is really easy. The only challenging part are the end-level bosses, each unique, again, based on the corporate satire that I’ve mentioned countless times so far. There’s also a simple upgrade system that doesn’t really alter much of the gameplay.

As I said in the beginning, The Company Man is a simple action sidescroller. Yes, you’ve probably played better games like this one, but the gorgeous art style and the whole corporate satire, make it somewhat stand out. If you want to give it a try though, it’s entirely up to you. Thanks for reading!
