"I have no idea what I am doing." - I said once I started playing Alone in the Dark on my iPad. I spent more than 10 minutes trying to start the game as I was stuck on a series of screens that apparently were describing the story, but I couldn't really read anything cause of the stupid overly pixelated font.
After a quick Google search I found out that Alone in the Dark is a PC game released in 1992 and that the iOS version is a direct port of it and I quote "with new controls fitted for your mobile device". The game is a 3D survival horror game with a fixed camera which plays like the first two Resident Evil games.
I remember fondly the first two Resident Evil games and I would love to play HD remakes of them with revamped control and aiming schemes. Unfortunately the control scheme of Alone in the Dark on the iOS is so terrible and so out of time that makes this one of the worst games I have ever played. On the bottom left of the screen there's a d-pad and on the right there's something else. You move by pressing up or down on the d-pad and turn by pressing the left or right. So you have to turn to the direction you want to go then press up, if you want to turn, you have to stop, turn and then move again. But since most of the time the game doesn't register hitting the buttons you will be stuck. Other times you'll just spin around.
The other button is used for action or something like that. If you keep that pressed and tap on the d-pad your character on screen will start throwing punches or kicks in what could possibly be the worst animated ever. If you go to the window as you see in the screenshot above, a giant rat or mole or something will start attacking you. And you have to defend yourself by kicking an punching it, but since the hits don't register properly you will whack the air and so will the giant rat. This encounter was so bad that it was actually quite funny to see.
The presentation also sucks. The environments look awful, the character model looks awful and the animations are utterly bad. Everything in this game is just bad, really really bad. Don't spend your money on this.
