Adam Wolfe Review

If you are a fan of puzzle games, you owe it to yourself to play Adam Wolfe.

I am glad I got in touch with the Adam Wolfe guys and finally decided to play it. If you look at the screenshots on the Appstore you get the idea that this is some generic run-of-the-mill G5 hidden objects game, but you couldn't be more wrong. Adam Wolfe is a surprisingly strong puzzle and it feels like an evolution of the genre.

In Adam Wolfe you play as the titular supernatural detective who finds himself in the midst of a large ongoing conspiracy. A dark secret society wants total control over time and they will do anything to achieve and protect their goal. Things heat up even more when Adam discovers that his sister's mysterious disappearance is linked to this dark society. Each episode presents a new case and each new case he gets is somehow linked to his sister, it is all connected and as you solve them you uncover the hidden truths and meaning behind everything. It is a great and thrilling story which is delivered with a great pace. The excellent voice acting helps a lot in that matter, Adam is cocky and sometimes a little douchey, but in the end he does his job and ends up saving the day.

As for gameplay, the game feels like an evolution of Hidden Object Games. It engages you, the player, as much as possible. If you've played The Room games before or any "escape the room" type before, there are a lot of similar puzzles to be found in Adam Wolfe. There are QTE-ish fights, jigsaws, hidden object puzzles, multi-step puzzles, deduction puzzles etc. Also, they do some great things with time travel and crime scene reconstruction that is very cool and very interesting.

Again the screenshots do not do justice to the large amount of puzzle variety. I really like these mystery detective games and I loved every minute of Adam Wolfe. Everything is put together so well. The UI is neat and helpful. The hints system is fantastic and extremely useful when you don't see the solution in your head. The presentation is truly gorgeous with the art-style that look like a comic book. The audio mixing is also beautifully crafted as Adam’s narration of the scenes leads to a deeper immersion in the game. Additionally, the ambient music enhanced the mood of the game and combined perfectly with the moody rendition of San Francisco to create a perfect atmosphere of mystery and creepiness.

Adam Wolfe is just fantastic and it is worth both your time and money. If you are a fan of puzzle games, you owe it to yourself to play it. Or at least play the first episode as it is completely free of charge on iOS. Thanks for reading!
