Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims Review

• written by Krist Duro

Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims is the latest PS Minis title from developer Dakko Dakko. The whole premise of the game it's in the game title. But let me tell you, this is maybe best PS Mini title you'll ever play.

In Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims, a side-scrolling shooter, you take control of the Cloud God, a lion looking creature which fly around using well, clouds. Your task is protecting your worshipers or in this case the Pilgrims. They have to travel through different "world", five to be exact, to reach the sacred place. But getting there is no easy task. Here the Cloud God comes in. As the level starts the Pilgrims start their journey. Different types of enemies try to "kill" the Pilgrims, so you as the Cloud God must defeat them first. Your weapon? Clouds!

As you defeat an enemy the Pilgrims give you hearts, which are used like a power-up system. The more enemies you defeat, the bigger the hearts, the more powerful clouds you shoot. At first you shoot white clouds that are not so strong and not travel very far, but as you collect more hearts, the cloud beneath the God changes color. Gray, black and at the most powerful, gold cloud which is the most powerful and defeats the enemies in one blow. Your god is invincible, meaning that he cannot be "killed'. This is what sets this game apart from other side-scroller shooters. Game over comes when all of your Pilgrims are dead. At the end of each level, you get another Pilgrim to follow you to the next level. At the end of each "world" you face a boss. Each boss is different and has a specific way to defeat him.

The enemies are varied,  devil hands start clawing up from the ground, crows dive-bomb your Pilgrims, and demons with phallic noses launch them as languorous, looping rockets. Also there are some other strange enemies, but is best to see yourself when you buy this game, like now! The difficulty scales as you progress. It start easy, but near the end it can get really difficult.

I really loved the visuals. Japanese and Chinese inspired art style looks and fits well with the game story. Vibrant colors fill the detailed environments. Also the animations looked really cool. I played the game in a big HDTV and it looked awesome. The music creates a perfect atmosphere that really fits the overall tone of the game.

As I said at the start of the review, this is maybe best PS Mini title you'll ever play. The only problem I encountered was a freeze during the end game boss, but maybe it was my console fault. Floating Cloud God Saves the Pilgrims is truly a great great game. Definitely buy the game cause you will not be disappointed, not at all!
