Cubixx HD Review

Cubixx HD is a puzzle game from UK developer Laughing Jackal. It's an update of the Minis title with the same name released in June 2010.

In Cubixx HD you use your laser to cut away the surfaces of a mysterious cube and free the energy within. Cutting longer lines and crossing multiple cube surfaces gives you bigger combos, but at far greater risk. Different types of enemies float around the surface and are easily avoided in small numbers.  However, along with the Homers, which reduce your speed, they’re deadly enough and one touch is enough to break your line. Other enemies appear as you progress, including Asteroids and Black Holes, but thankfully they can only actually harm you if they make contact on the side that’s currently in use.

Cubixx HD is a fast paced action puzzle game which sends high scoring, combo chasing gameplay to the third dimension! This PlayStation 3 update to Cubixx lets you play through the epic 50 level arcade mode, challenge your skills to the limit in 50 challenges or take on the world in over 150 online leaderboards. If that isn’t enough you can join forces with friends in the 7 player co-op or destroy each other in the 7 player Deathmatch. Playing with friends is an unique experience, you should definitely try it.

Graphically, the game features a futuristic palette that reminds one of Tron. At first, it looks almost bland: a simple green cube, a few floating red squares that travel across the cube faces, and your laser line. But as you play and progress, color really begins to infuse this presentation. Very soon vibrant colors fill the entire screen. It is an interesting view to look at.

Cubixx HD is a really cool game. It packs a lot of content that will keep you hooked up for a while, believe me. You should definitely give this game a try as you might really like it.

8.5/10
